Your impact in Senegal

Senegal is located on the Western coast of the African continent with 75 percent of its population living in poverty. Although Senegal is one of the most stable countries in Africa, there is widespread unemployment leading to a high rate of poverty in the country.

Due to a lack of infrastructure, many Senegalese do not have access to clean drinking water, sanitation and medical assistance. Limited access to healthcare facilities forces many women to give birth at home without the presence of a health practitioner. According to the World Health Organization, on average five Senegalese women die every day due to complications during pregnancy and childbirth leaving over 500,000 Senegalese children orphaned at birth.

Many of these children are left to fend for themselves and end up being coerced into child labour or forced to raise money by begging.

Maison Sourire d’Enfants was founded in 2016 to provide a loving home for orphaned children in Mbodiene, Senegal. This loving home provides a safe space for these children with the aim of supporting and finding them suitable parents.
